Background | Ubiquitin is a 76 amino acids 8.5 kDa, a highly conserved small regulatory protein that is ubiquitously expressed in eukaryotes and plays a central role in protein degradation. The Ubiquitin/proteosome pathways are main, non-lysomal route for intracellular protein degradation. The protein to be degraded is conjugated to Ubiquitin; it is selectively degraded by 26S complex multicatalytic cytosolic and nuclear protease termed proteosome. This protein also plays important role in cellular processes e.g. Cell cycle progression, gene transcription, antigen processing and signal transduction. In Immunohistochemistry (IHC) this antibody can detect abnormal inclusion bodies, in neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer’s disease, lewy bodies in Parkinson’s disease, pick bodies in Pick’s disease, inclusions in motor neuron disease, Mallory’s Haylin in alcoholic liver disease and Rosenthal fibers in astrocytes. |
