4°CAnti-cancer compound. Microtubule assembly inhibitor. Depolymerizes microtubules and limits microtubule formation (inactivates spindle fibre formation). Inhibits mitosis during cell division at metaphase by inhibiting spindle formation. Anti-inflammatory compound. Suppresses monosodium urate crystal-induced NLRP3/NALP3 inflammasome-driven caspase-1 activation, IL-1beta processing and release, and L-selectin expression on neutrophils at micromolar concentrations. Blocks the release of a crystal-derived chemotactic factor from neutrophil lysosomes, blocks neutrophil adhesion to, and inhibits monosodium urate crystal-induced production of superoxide anions from neutrophils at nanomolar concentrations. Drug used in treatment of gout, familial Mediterranean fever, pericarditis and Behect's disease. Investigated for its anti-cancer activity. It has a narrow therapeutic index with no clear-cut distinction between nontoxic, toxic and lethal doses, causing substantial confusion among clinicians. Apoptosis inducer in a variety of normal and tumor cell lines.||Synonyms:|(-)-Colchicine; NSC 757; EINECS 200-598-5, N-[(7S)-1,2,3,10- tetramethoxy-9-oxo-5,6,7,9-tetrahydrobenzoamheptalen- 7-yl]acetamide||CAS Number:|64-86-8||Source:|Colchicum autumnale||Molecular Weight:|399.4||Molecular Formula:|C22H25NO6||Purity (HPLC):|Content of Colchicine: 94-101% (HPLC)|Chromatographic Purity: ≥95% (HPLC) ||Appearance:|Pale yellow to green crystalline powder ||Melting Point:|155-157°C||Optical Rotation:|amD20 = -240 to -250º (C=1 in EtOH) ||Water (KF):|≤2%||E. coli, Salmonella, S. aureus:|Negative||Yeast and Mold:|≤100cfu/g||Microbial Count:|≤1000cfu/g (TPC)||Related Substances:|Total Impurity: ≤5%||Residual Solvents:|Limit of Colchicine: Complies|Limit of Ethylacetate: ≤8%|Chloroform: ≤100ppm|Methylene chloride: ≤ 600ppm|Methanol: ≤ 3000ppm|Hexane: ≤290 ppm||Solubility:|100% ethanol (>100mg/ml), DMSO (>100mg/ml), water or DMF||Storage and Stability:|Store at 4°C.
