Ein neues Coronavirus (Covid-19 / 2019-nCoV) Das dem SARS-Virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) und dem MERS-Virus (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) nahestehende Virus wurde Anfang Januar in der Stadt Wuhan, China, entdeckt.
Die Symptome dieser neuen Coronavirus-Infektion ähneln denen der saisonalen Grippe, von SARS oder MERS. Auch die Übertragung und die Inkubationszeit scheinen ähnlich wie bei anderen Coronaviren zu sein. Das Coronavirus Covid-19 (2019-nCoV) scheint etwas ansteckender zu sein als das saisonale Influenzavirus und seine Infektion verläuft bei anfälligen Personen etwas schwerer.
Lange Zeit galten die Coronaviren als relativ harmlose Krankheitserreger, die dem Menschen kaum Schaden zufügen können.
