Woody plant culture media - Anderson Rhododendron Medium
A woody plant is a plant that produces wood as its structural tissue. Woody plants are usually either trees, shrubs, or lianas. These are usually perennial plants whose stems and larger roots are reinforced with wood produced from secondary xylem.
Anderson Rhododendron medium contains nutrients as described by Anderson 1984. It is a low inorganic nutrient composition and is used for conventional micropropagation of Rhododendron and other plants of family Ericaceae.
Anderson Rhododendron Medium is a nutrient blend of inorganic salts, vitamins, amino acid, carbohydrate, plant growth regulator and gelling agent. Potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate serve as sources of nitrate and stimulates morphogenesis. A two-fold increase in shoot multiplication of red raspberry on Anderson’s medium was achieved as compared to the Murashige and Skoog formulation. This is due to the low concentration of inorganic nutrients that promote raspberry growth.
