Human Paraffin Tissue Sections - Dermal System
The function of the dermal cellular system, also known as the integumentary system, is to protect the body's tissues and organs from dehydration, infectious organisms and rapid temperature changes. In addition, the dermal system receives sensory information from the environment and produces melanin and vitamin D. Melanocytes, keratinocytes, endothelial cells and fibroblasts are vital components necessary for normal skin development and function. Abnormal proliferation and regulation of cells within the dermal cell system contribute to the development of pathological disorders such as eczema, psoriasis and melanoma. In vitro culture of human skin cells is an essential research tool, widely used to evaluate skin toxicity, pharmacological testing and tissue repair.
