Gap closure
Cellular migration is a highly integrated, multi-stage process that plays an important role in the progression of various diseases, including cancer, atherosclerosis and arthritis. There are different types and definitions of cell migration.
Tests based on the "Gap closure" principle provide a simple format for accurately evaluating cell migration. Each of these tests provides a coherently defined area through which the migratory cells can move. The migration can be monitored in real time by microscopy.
Tests based on the "gap closure" principle are available in the following formats:
- Tests with a bio-compatible hydrogel to create a circular area in which cells can migrate in 2 dimensions
- Wound healing tests: this test is a more consistent alternative to the traditional scratch test. A precisely molded insert creates a 0.9 mm constant linear gap at the bottom of the wells of a 24-well plate into which the cells can migrate.
