Real-time quantitative PCR for diagnosis
Real-time quantitative PCR is used for diagnosis in various fields such as infectious diseases, hematology and oncology. By direct detection of the pathogen's DNA or RNA, real-time PCR can quickly establish a very accurate diagnosis, and thus provide each patient with rapid and selective treatment. In oncology, molecular markers can be used to provide accurate prognosis and predict response, resistance or toxicity to treatment.
The major advantages of real-time quantitative PCR over conventional PCR methods are:
- Quantitative analyzes of the results
- Strains typing using specific fluorescent probes (as vaccine strains / field strains)
- Determination of gene duplications or deletions
- Reproducibility
- Very important sensitivity
- Safety of results (no risk of contamination and false positive due to lack of electrophoresis analysis)
- Automation of the analysis
