McCoy's 5A medium is widely used in the culture of many established cell lines, primary mammalian cells, and cells derived from diopsy tissues. Compared to other media, McCoy's 5A contains reduced glutathione, bacterial peptone and a high concentration of glucose. It contains various amino acids and vitamins essential for cell growth, though does not contain proteins, lipids or growth factors.

The 1 × 10 L size is provided as 1 bottle containing lyophilized powder for 10 L of 1X McCoy's 5A. The 1 × 50 L size is provided as 1 bottle containing lyophilized powder for 50 L of 1X McCoy's 5A.
