The oral system is the site of food ingestion and is responsible for maintaining a moist environment in the oral cavity. The oral system, also called the oral cavity, is part of the digestive system. It consists of the lips, teeth, tongue and salivary glands. The oral cavity is the site of the first stage of digestion. It has a mechanical role (with grinding by chewing) and a chemical role (beginning of the degradation of sugars by a salivary enzyme). Keratinocytes and fibroblasts are essential components necessary for the normal functioning of the oral cellular system. Changes in the proliferation and regulation of cells within the oral system lead to the development of oral infections and cancers of the oral cavity. We propose different types of normal human primary cells of the oral system, namely: oral keratinocytes, gingival fibroblasts, periodontal ligament fibroblasts and oral fibroblasts.
