Tauro-Obeticholic acid is an active Obeticholic acid metabolite. Obeticholic acid is an orally bioavailable agonist of farnesoid-X receptor (FXR).
In vitro
Obeticholic acid and taurine are conjugated in the liver to form taurine-obeticholic acid, which is secreted into the bile. Microorganisms in the ileum and colon can dissociate taurine-cholesteric acid and convert it into the parent drug, which can then be reabsorbed or excreted in feces.
