L'IPTG, exempt de dioxane (isopropyl-bêta-thiogalactoside) est un analogue de l'allolactose qui se lie spécifiquement à la protéine répressive de l'opéron lac et induit l'expression de la bêta-galactosidase chez Escherichia coli. L'IPTG, sans dioxane, est largement utilisé avec les plaques de X-Gal (sc-280488) pour rechercher les colonies bleues et blanches. Le système de l'opéron lac et l'IPTG sans dioxane ont été utilisés dans de nombreuses expériences de clonage et dans des systèmes cellulaires pour étudier l'activité des gènes.
