Background | Duramycin is a 19-amino-acid (molecular weight 2012 Da) tetracyclic lantibiotic closely related to cinnamycin (Ro09-0198), which is known to bind phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). It is obtained from culture filtrates of Streptomyces cinnamomeus forma azacoluta. Duramycin recognizes and binds to a particular membrane conformation determined by the presence of PE or monogalactosyl diglyceride. |
