Neuropsychiatric disorders
Neuropsychiatric disorders are disorders that involve both neurological and psychiatric disorders. These disorders affect higher mental functions such as cognition, mood, behavior, perception and motivation. Neuropsychiatric disorders can be caused by brain damage, genetic abnormalities, chemical imbalances in the brain, infections or chronic illnesses.
Neuropsychiatric disorders can include neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Neuropsychiatric disorders can have a significant impact on the quality of life of those who suffer from them, as well as on their loved ones.
